I Want YOU! To recommend some books!

I used to keep a list o' books by my bedside, but that list is either packed away in a box or in a garbage can. Either way, I don't have it, and as a person grows and develops so should their bank of knowledge and resources. Simply put, I want to make a new list.

I have a few entries, which have carried over from my mental list, but I want more. When I go back to the states I'm going to acquire a mini-library to take back with me, and I could always order some online (like the sixth Harry Potter book that comes out in July!).

Anyway, this is where you all come in. I want some recommendations-things I should read, things I should avoid. I'm not putting on any stipulations, like non-fiction, personal development, yada yada yada. Just start spouting off suggestions, and I'll take care of the filtering. Okay? Ready. Go!

Hi Laura,
I thought in today's society why lug all those books around when you can either look them up on line or watch a movie. I think one of my favorite authors is Nora Roberts. Writes mostly paperback but is easy reading. I especially liked the trilogy of the 3 sisters *read that before we went to Salem* . Also, enjoyed the DiVinci code. well have to think on that. When you get older it is much harder to focus. Luv U B Safe Aunt J

and before I forget, one of the most scariest paperback books I have read (read only half way- through the book out because it gave me nightmares) was Salem's Lot. Didn't want the book in my house so read about half later that evening had such bad dreams got up.... put all lights on in house..... and still couldn't go to sleep, eventually I put that book out the door.... finally was able to sleep.

I'd recommend Captain Corelli's Mandolin (but I think most people have read it... still a great book tho). I'm a big Stephen King fan myself, so Misery, The Shining and The Green Mile are usually within my reach. 8)
